A dream destination wedding at Villa Le Capanne in Volterra, Italy
Country Relais and Villa Le Capanne, located near the charming hilltop town of Volterra in Tuscany, is a truly magical venue for a destination wedding in Italy.
This beautiful 100-year-old villa, with its rustic architecture and breathtaking views of the rolling Tuscan countryside, offers everything you could wish for in a wedding venue. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate outdoor ceremony or a relaxed reception under the stars, Villa Le Capanne creates the perfect setting for an unforgettable celebration.
Katy and Ben's stunning destination wedding in Italy
As a wedding photographer, I absolutely adore capturing Italy destination weddings, and Katy and Ben’s gorgeous day at Villa Le Capanne was incredible. From the moment I arrived, I knew this wedding would be something truly special.
The day started with Katy and Ben getting ready at the villa. One of the many great things about Villa Le Capanne is that it offers plenty of space for both the couple and their closest family and friends to stay on-site, creating a truly seamless destination wedding experience. Katy’s elegant and natural look, created by the super-talented Madeline Baucia, perfectly complemented the relaxed and stylish vibe of the day. The morning was so laid-back, filled with laughter and excitement as everyone prepared for the celebrations ahead. Katy and Ben even had their dog Pablo in attendance!
An outdoor ceremony with incredible Tuscan Views
Katy and Ben chose to have their ceremony outdoors, and honestly, it was hard to imagine a more perfect location. With the rolling hills of Tuscany and iconic cypress trees as their backdrop, the setting was absolutely breathtaking. Outdoor ceremonies in Tuscany have such a romantic and intimate feel, and Villa Le Capanne made every moment of theirs unforgettable.
Guests gathered under the warm Italian sun to watch Katy and Ben exchange their vows. I loved being witness to their personal vows and also loved that Pablo the dog was the ring bearer! Little personal touches make weddings extra meaningful and I love getting to know my couples' personalities. There’s something truly special about an Italy destination wedding, especially in Tuscany - it’s the combination of stunning scenery, golden light, and the relaxed atmosphere that makes every moment feel so magical.
A relaxed reception and outside dining
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed aperitivi in the villa’s garden, sipping on Prosecco and sampling delicious Italian bites while taking in the sweeping views of the countryside. This is one of my favourite parts of any destination wedding in Italy - there’s such a joyful, unhurried pace that allows everyone to truly savour the experience. With so many guests coming from the UK for this destination wedding in Tuscany, there was such a holiday vibe to the day!
Dinner was served outdoors under strings of fairy lights, creating the most enchanting setting for an al fresco reception. As the light faded, the candles looked absolutely stunning and created such a romantic feel to dinner. Long tables were adorned with simple yet elegant decor, letting the natural beauty of the Tuscan surroundings take centre stage. The food, as you’d expect from an Italian wedding, was absolutely incredible. Fresh, local ingredients and perfectly paired wines made every dish a delight. I'm so grateful I was able to enjoy the wedding meal as Katy and Ben kindly included me!
As the evening went on, the garden was filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and a real sense of togetherness. Katy and Ben’s wedding perfectly captured the relaxed and joyful spirit of a destination wedding in Italy, and it was such an honour to be there to document it all.
Why Tuscany is perfect for an Italian destination wedding
Tuscany is one of the most sought-after locations for a destination wedding, and it’s easy to see why. From its breathtaking landscapes to its incredible food and wine, the region has everything couples need to create a truly magical celebration.
Volterra, where Villa Le Capanne is located, is one of Tuscany’s hidden gems. This medieval hilltop town is full of charm, with winding cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Staying in Volterra before Katy and Ben’s wedding was such a wonderful experience - it’s the kind of place where you can truly immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of Tuscany while of course eating heaps of pizza and gelato!
For couples dreaming of a destination wedding in Italy, venues like Country Relais and Spa Le Capanne are hard to beat. They offer the perfect balance of rustic charm, luxurious comfort, and stunning natural surroundings. As someone who also had my own wedding in Italy, I can honestly say there’s nowhere quite like it for creating memories that will last a lifetime.
